Day 11: Seattle- Our First Real City

Mile 2230: Leaving Leavenworth, WA

Our drive from Leavenworth to Seattle was relatively short- only 2 1/2 hours. It could have been 2 hours if we didn't have to drive on a single lane road with 100 RV's and campers going 15mph below the speed limit. Do I sound frustrated?

View of the space needle as we drive into Seattle. We're still not sure if we paid the toll.

We parked our car at the hotel and hit the town as our hotel room wasn't quite ready. It was a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day. Seattle is a super-cute city. It has just the right mix of clean and grime. It's cleaner than NYC, less snotty than San Francisco and about the size of downtown Philadelphia.

Random Alley- old palette filled with flowers. Perfect example of cleaned-up grime

Seattle Street View

Why has no one ever mentioned how hilly Seattle is?

We had an amazing lunch at this great and inexpensive place (thanks Daina for the recommendation).

Le Pichet

Cheese plate- yes, we actually didn't take any bites of this yet!

We strolled down Pikes Place and the farmers market. It is somewhat touristy, but also has plenty of attractions if you are a local patron (a butcher for example). For those readers from Philadelphia/ South Jersey, I would liken this area it to a classy Pennsauken Mart (why did they have to demo that? Huge potential).

We checked into our hotel, changed into our Virginia Tech outfits and headed out to meet the Seattle chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni association (James' alma mater in case anyone is confused) to watch the football season opener (I'm not sure if that's what you call it, but it's the 1st game of the season). We headed to Buckley's in Belltown to meet a group of strangers with a common love.

Watching the game

This is a particularly bad picture of our food. It was lovely mascarpone mac and cheese.

VT won, but it was a harrowing game. Time for a good night sleep. On to Vancouver Canada tomorrow.
