Day 25: Santa Barbara & South

After we enjoy our hotel continental breakfast, we check out and begin to explore Santa Barbara. A friend told us that it was a playground for old people. Well, we must be old people, because we loved it... especially James. He had a silly grin on his face the whole time.

Self portrait in front of the wharf... not our best hair moment
Sorry Marla, you would not be allowed on the pier.

View from the wharf. Several stand up paddle boarders were out

A seemingly homeless man created this ingenious money-making 'game' along side of the wharf. It looked to be quite successful.

Close-up of the game. You try to toss your coins to the appropriate space.

View of Santa Barbara from the pier. It is a small city with less than 100,000 residents

James made me go to this sea center. Everything inside is from the water right there in Santa Barbara. The volunteer told us about all of the great white sharks that have been in the area. There is a local warning for swimmers. Yeah, not going swimming in Santa Barbara. We looked up details later and the great whites were spotted right off the wharf- where we were. What are these paddle boarders thinking?!?!

Cute shopping area on State Street. There were lots of great places

Architecture in the main shopping area

The smell from this place was like heaven, so we decided it would be a good one for lunch

It was very tasty. Apparently it is a chain. The burgers aren't as good as In-N-Out, but the fries are much better.

After we checked out Santa Barbara, we headed on our short journey to Los Angeles... more specifically, Redondo Beach. We are staying with my friend Anne from NYU. I miss her since her move to the west coast, so I am excited for the visit. Along the way, we stop for some more scenic photographs.

There is something so optimistic about Southern California. It's really beautiful and serene (unless you are stuck in traffic).

And patriotic...

Mile 4290: Redondo Beach, CA

We got to our friend Anne's house in Redondo Beach. It's a 2 bedroom with a great deck. She is still working, so we catch up on our blog and enjoy a glass of wine. When Anne returns, we head out to dinner. Anne is excited to be part of the road trip and has been following the blog. We head to MB Post in Manhattan Beach. It's a great restaurant where you order many small plates and share at the table. Anne reminds us that we MUST take pictures of our food before we eat. No more half eaten food pictures. OK Anne. We got it.

The first dish arrives and Anne jumps in before the camera comes out. Now we have one understanding blog fan. The food comes and you forget!

Our waitress was awesome and gave us some recommendations for our road trip. She was from Phoenix and that is on our road trip path. She may be joining us as a loyal reader.

After dinner, we headed home and went straight to bed. Tomorrow: The Beach
