Day 14: Getting a Flavor for Portland

Today, we leave the foreign, yet familiar Canada to head back to the United States. We are still not certain what the blinking green traffic lights are supposed to mean...

It is the only day that we will actually have to back track. We are on our way to Portland, OR, but will pass back through Seattle in order to get there.

Mile 2488: Leave Vancouver. It's an early start since we have a six hour drive.

Mile 2625: Seattle again.
Seattle skyline as we drove by on the freeway

It was a long, uneventful drive. We stopped for lunch at a really cute place in Kent, WA called Family Drive In. It smelled incredible. They didn't have a bathroom, so we abandoned that idea and hit the local McDonalds. I didn't think you needed a picture of that.

Just an hour or two later we entered into Oregon.

Their welcome sign could use a little work.

Shortly after entering Oregon, we were in Portland. The population of Portland is about the same as Seattle- 600,000 with 2.5million in the metro area. We instantly liked the vibe in Portland.
Lots of cute neighborhoods

Entire city block of food trucks. What an awesome lunch spot this will be!

Looks like a mini version on the Flat Iron building in NYC

We had a tough time deciding on dinner, so we chose a self-made tapas tour of Portland. We used a combination of Trip Advisor and suggestions from my friend Lee (we'll meet up with Lee tomorrow). Our first stop was a Brasserie downtown. We forgot to take a picture, but it was a teeny-tiny mac and cheese.

Next stop- Oba in the Pearl District- Venezuelan Chachapa- the tomatoes where the best part

Trip Advisor ranked Andina as the #1 restaurant in Portland. We were lucky enough to get a table without waiting. We tried a couple of dishes here including empanadas and the trout.

Our favorite at Andina were these anticucho de pollo (chicken skewers). Very flavorful.

With all of that traveling and eating, we were exhausted. More to explore in Portland tomorrow.
