Day 7: Time Out

Mile: 1520

Hi Everyone- this may be a boring post because we didn't do a lot of traveling or exploring today.

Sun coming over the mountains in Big Sky- View from our hotel room

We slept in and then went for a run/ hike. The plan was to run to Ousel Falls & back from our hotel. It's only 2 miles away on a gravel trail. James, armed with his camera, was excited to do some trail running. I was nervous about bears. Sorry, but grizzly bears scare me! We ran our 2 miles and realized we just got to Ousel Park... the falls were another .8 miles. On the run, we encountered (not a bear), but some Wahoos (or UVA fans- these are the Virginia Tech rivals). After a friendly exchange, we continued our run to the falls. Sweating and panting, we arrive at the falls- not only was it another .8 miles, but it was up a steep hill. It was beautiful:
Image stolen from an online source (thank you Big Sky Chamber of Commerce) as our camera memory card was full.

We hiked back through the falls as James'knee needed a break. We ran back once on the trail again.

We both had a terrific grilled chicken sandwiches for lunch at Choppers Pub and Grub. James continued to sample the local IPA's. Unfortunately, we were half way into our food when we realized we didn't take photos.

Total Domination IPA- quite the aggressive names for a beer

I dropped James off at his fly fishing destination and I used my free afternoon to hit the spa. I had a refreshing massage.

James came back with tales of the fish he caught, and the beautiful scenery

Gallatin River (where James went fishing)

12" Rainbow Trout that James Caught

After getting back into town, we went to dinner at the newest brick oven pizza place in town.

Best Salad Ever. Sorry- we remembered the pictures a little late

Ingredients are listed here. It was the Arugula salad

Hopper Pale Ale- Another of James' IPA trials. He liked this one because of the picture of the fly fisherman on front

We finished our evening off with a free concert in the Park. Our hotel staff highly recommended we attend. When I made a stop in the post office earlier in the day, it was all anyone could talk about- "You know, they performed on Letterman!!" 'Cold Hard Cash' was the name of the band. They specialize in covers from- guess who- Johnny Cash. They were quite good and we stayed up until almost 9:30 (whoa).

'Cold Hard Cash' rocking in Big Sky, MT

It was a quiet day, but we needed to recharge. Tomorrow- we are off to Missoula, MT (you know- Brad Pitt- 'A River Runs Through It'.) I'm going to see if James looks like Brad when he fly fishes.
